Don't Cop Jordan 4s Until You Read This Sizing Guide

Most Jordan 4 regret has nothing to do with the colorway. It's the size. You grab your usual number, lace them up at home, and your pinky toe starts filing complaints by lunch. This Jordan 4 sizing guide is the short, plain version of what we tell people at the bench in our Upland and Brea shops: how the 4 fits, who should go up, and how to get it right before you spend the money.

Quick answers

Jordan 4s fit true to size for most standard feet. If your feet are wide, go up half a size, since the forefoot runs narrow. Women's pairs fit true to size but the toe box is snug. To convert men's to women's, add 1.5. SB versions run true to size even for wide feet.

Do Jordan 4s run small?

For most people, no. Nike's own guidance says the Air Jordan 4 Retro generally fits true to size for standard foot shapes. Wear a 10 in most Nikes? Start with a 10.

Where it gets tricky is the forefoot. Nike notes that a lot of people find the 4 narrower across the widest part of the foot, right behind the toes. So the length is right, but the squeeze is real for some feet.

That's where the "they run small" reputation comes from. It's a width problem more than a length problem.

Should I size up in Jordan 4s if I have wide feet?

Yes. Half a size.

If you wear a wider width or you've ever felt a basketball shoe pinch on the sides, go up half a size in the 4. Nike says the same thing for anyone in that boat.

Don't go up a full size. You'll fix the width and create a heel-slip problem, and a sloppy heel in a 4 looks off and wears weird.

One exception worth knowing: the Jordan 4 SB pairs. Nike recommends true to size on those for both standard and wide feet. We've got the SB Navy and SB Pine Green on the wall right now, so that's a fair test if you're on the fence.

How do women's and GS Jordan 4s fit?

Women's Jordan 4s fit true to size, but the toe box is tighter than a lot of other sneakers. Wide feet, same rule: half up.

Converting from men's to women's? Add 1.5. A men's 8.5 is a women's 10.

Grade school (GS) pairs are a different story, and the published guides mostly skip them. Best move is to try them on. We carry GS 4s too, like the Military Blue GS.

Do Jordan 4s get more comfortable after break-in?

Depends on the material.

Leather pairs, like the Bred Reimagined, need almost no break-in. The OG releases that use Durabuck take a few wears before the upper loosens up. So if a Durabuck pair feels stiff on day one, that's normal. Pinching is a different issue, and break-in won't fix it.

Compared with other Jordans, here's the quick read. The Jordan 1 has a slightly roomier toe box. The Jordan 5 is narrower than the 4. The 3 fits about the same. If you already know your size in those, use it as a reference point.

Does an older pair fit the same as a new one?

Not always, and this one catches people.

According to Sole Retriever's fit guide, the Jordan 4 got a shape update around 2023, and the newer pairs are more forgiving for all-day wear. So a 2019 pair and a 2025 pair in the same size can feel different on the same foot. If you're shopping an older release, don't assume your size from a recent pair carries over. Try it.

Quick fit check, whatever the year: stand up, press down at the toe, and look for roughly a thumb's width of room. Then walk. If your heel lifts out with every step, the pair's too big.

Where can I try on Jordan 4s in Upland or Brea?

Right here. As of October 9 we had 121 Jordan 4 listings on the site, from the Military Blue and White Cement to the Nigel Sylvester Brick by Brick and the Undefeated.

Here's the part an online size chart can't do. At the shop, you can put the 4 on one foot and a 1 or a 5 on the other and feel the difference yourself. Bring the socks you'll wear. Walk around. Ask us anything. Nobody's going to rush you or make you feel dumb for asking what size you are. It's the smartest question in the building.

Pre-owned pairs are worth a try-on too. A pair that's already been worn can feel different from a fresh one, so put it on your foot before you decide.

That's how we like to do it. Treat people right, tell them the truth about fit, and let them leave with the right pair even if it's not the one they walked in for.
